According to a survey conducted at random among the MAR's 19,000+ members, 55 percent said they believed the snow storms would have a negative or significantly negative impact on their real estate business.
The survey takes sentiment into account through point calculations. If respondents say real estate conditions are "strong," it's 100 points. "Weak" assessments are given 0 points, neutral 50 points.
Another study conducted by the Massachusetts Association of Realtors confirmed members' sentiments, as the MAR's monthly market index was down 38 percent to 21.1 percent compared to January 2010.

At least 100 roofs throughout the state caved in under the weight of heavy snow and ice as January turned to February.
