To compile its list, released on the web just before the Father's Day weekend, the magazine narrowed the field to the 100 biggest U.S. cities, as determined by the Census Bureau. Census data was also used for another category, number of dads-per-capita. Other criteria included school quality, the number of little leagues-per-dad, the number of golf courses-per-dad and number of cardiologists-per dad.
Two Florida cities, Tampa and Orlando, came in at numbers five and four, respectively. Both scored high in the little leagues-per dad category, while Orlando came in at number one for golf courses and sports bars-per-dad.
Gilbert, Arizona came in at number three and Scottsdale, Arizona, with a high dads-per-capita rank, placed second.
Though Irvine came in at number one with all-around high scores, in any single category it only placed in the top 10 in one, dads-per-capita.
Last week, Parenting Magazine released its annual Best Cities for Families list. Interestingly, no cities from Florida, Arizona or California made the top 10.
