Seattle real estate experts confident in housing rebound in region

Seattle real estate experts think the housing market in the area could pick up in 2011.

Seattle real estate experts think the housing market in the area could pick up in 2011.

With the release of positive new housing statistics showing stable home sales, Seattle-area real estate agents are confident more people will be moving to the area in 2011 than last year, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports.

The Northwest Multiple Listing Service report states 33 percent more King County homes sold in December than November. However, the report also says the median home price for King County homes on the market in December was down 2.6 percent from December 2009.

Glenn Crellin, director of the Washington Center for Real Estate Research at Washington State University, told the paper the first half of 2011 will be "really rough" due to unfinished foreclosures and no substantial job creation in the private sector.

Despite the negative outlook, Crellin told the newspaper homes sales will be moving up soon, as recent reports are "an encouraging sign" for future sales.

In a survey conducted by the Seattle Chamber of Commerce in November, 41 percent of 1,200 businesses surveyed said they plan to hire more employees in 2011, and only 8 percent surveyed said they plan to decrease the amount of employees at their businesses.
