Bedbugs can be a problem for people who are moving into a new home.
The excitement and anticipation of moving into a new home tends to be curtailed if the property is crawling with bedbugs. As such, some New York City apartment owners are enlisting the services of an extermination company whose employees are dogs.
Best Bug Super Dogs says their company, which uses trained scent dogs to find the bed critters, is in high demand in Manhattan.
"The bed bug pandemic … creates a significant financial burden on property owners," said the company's CEO, David Baer, in an interview with HousingPredictor.com. "Inaccurate inspections could cost property owners enormous amounts of money."
Home inspectors are often called by people who have or are moving into a new home to ensure that the safety standards are up to code. But a termite and bed inspection company may also need to be contacted. According to a survey conducted by Bed Bug Super Dogs in December of entomologists, bedbug experts and exterminators, 65 percent said they expected the number of bed bug incidents to increase over the next 18 months and 34 percent expected the incidents to more than double.
