Ranking first on the list is Bethesda, Maryland. Residents in this East Coast town make an average income of $172,541 annually. This isn't surprising considering one out of every two people living in this area has a graduate degree, CNN said.
Purchasing a home here isn't cheap. The median price of a place is reported to be $725,000, CNN found. However, good credit scores combined with the residents' six-figure incomes are likely to help them get a mortgage loan.
Moving to Bethesda does have its perks. A number of festivals take place throughout the year, including the Taste of Bethesda and a literary event in the spring, CNN said. There are also a number of diverse restaurants and more than a dozen art galleries.
Rounding out the top five is Greenwich, Connecticut; Palo Alto and Newport, California; and Lower Merion, Pennsylvania.
If a person is moving to an area because of better paying job, they should speak with their employer about possible help with relocation costs.
