Home sales on the rise in Oldham

The number of home sales have increased in Oldham County, Kentucky.

The number of home sales have increased in Oldham County, Kentucky.

Oldham County, Kentucky, has seen a recent spike in home sales, despite the troubled economy.

Real estate agents reported sales of 573 homes between the months of January and September, which is an increase of 53 units when compared to the same period from the previous year, the Louisville Courier-Journal reported.

Dick Filippini, a realtor in Oldham County, told the paper he believes the economy has held back the real estate market from taking off even more.

“I’ve got people who want to buy; I’ve got people who want to sell,” Filippini said to the Courier-Journal. “But they can’t get the loans. The banks are brutal.”

Oldham County is just one area in Kentucky that has seen increases in home sales. In nearby Shelby County, 314 home sales were reported, which is an increase of 31 from last year's numbers, the source stated.

Troubling times for the economy make it difficult for real estate agents to predict the future, but the Courier-Journal reported they are remaining optimistic.

According to U.S. Census data, Kentucky has more than 4 million residents and close to 2 million housing units.
