The three-story brick home in Winnetka was a key character in the popular 1990 movie, in which a young Kevin McCallister is accidentally left at home while his family goes a France vacation. The five-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom house has high ceilings, dormered windows and wood-burning fireplaces.
"It's a classic Georgian that is incredibly well-balanced," Coldwell Banker listing agent Marissa Hopkins told the Chicago Tribune. "It's a convenient location, on a half-acre within a couple of blocks of town and the train."
The film was directed by John Hughes, who lived in the city's North Shore suburbs and filmed many of his movies there, including "The Breakfast Club" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." Winnetka is a haven for well-off people moving to the area. In fact, CNN Money said the suburb had the fourth-highest median household income in 2007.
