A Hollywood Hills home nicknamed the "Tree House" that has previously been owned by Ellen DeGeneres and Heath Ledger is back on the market. The current owner, who bought the house from Ledger's estate, is asking $2.995 million.
The home was built in 1951 with two bedrooms and two baths. The bathrooms and kitchens have received modern renovations, but the home's brick fireplace, beamed ceilings and decks provide a retro feel. The Tree House's large deck, with an outdoor screening room, grill and fire pit, allows scenic views.
In 2008, the Los Angeles Department of City Planning estimated that the 7.05-square-mile Hollywood Hills neighborhood had a population nearly 23,000. About 2,350 homes in the area have an income of $125,000 or more, which makes it affluent compared to most neighborhoods in Los Angeles County.
However, the county has an unemployment rate higher than the United States' average, so as residents downsize, moving trucks
may be a common sight in more affordable areas, like Echo Park and downtown Los Angeles.
