RelocateAmerica, a company that provides informational resources to people moving house, considered economic indicators such as real estate and employment data, as well as recreation options and crime rates, to generate its list of the top 100 places to live in the United States.
Austin, with a vibrant music scene and growing business sector, has recently been recognized by OnNumbers and Forbes as a top city for young professionals. Elements that make locations appealing to the young professional demographic seem to translate to overall quality of life. Greenville, South Carolina, Raleigh, North Carolina, and Omaha, Nebraska, also made the top 10 in both the RelocateAmerica and Forbes rankings.
If it's no surprise to see the above cities in the RelocateAmerica top 10, the runner-up to Austin, Grand Rapids, Michigan, is less expected. RelocateAmerica's research team said it was gratified to put Grand Rapids high on the list because it was named a "dying city" in Newsweek last January. Steve Nickerson, president of RelocateAmerica, said Grand Rapids is a model small city, with a solid economy and good schools.
Two of the best places to live, Austin and Raleigh, are also the two U.S. cities likely to see the greatest population growth in the next decade, according to ProximityOne.
