Figures from Movers.com, a network of moving companies show that the Lone Star State accounted for 9.5 percent of all inbound moves last year, more than any other state. California and Florida rounded out the top three with 9.4 and 9.3 percent of moves, respectively.
Texas also showed the most significant population gain because of those moves. While the state had the highest number of inbound moves, it had just the fourth-highest percentage of people moving out of the state.
In terms of specific cities with most moving activity, Houston had the highest number of inbound moves, while Chicago and Las Vegas recorded the highest number of outbound movers.
Part of the reason for the trend is that the state is home to a number of highly desirable places to live. Last month, Money Magazine ranked four Texas cities in the top 25 slots in its list of the best small cities in the country in which to live.
