If a person is moving from a cluttered home, starting an organizational system when packing will help ease the transition, Military Spouse magazine said. Using a notebook to keep track of what works and doesn't work in a person's current residence can help the relocation process.
Taking a cue from Jamie Novak's book 1,000 Best Quick and Easy Organizing Secrets, the magazine suggests people pack and stay organized through a few important steps. The first is to pack all similar items together. The second is to label all containers and boxes. Doing this will help ensure that unpacking occurs in an efficient manner.
It's also advised that unpacking takes place one room at a time. "When unpacking ... it is easy to dart from room to room, unpacking the first layer of boxes in every room," the magazine said. However, "the solution is setting up one space from start to finish."
When packing, reusable containers should be considered when appropriate. They can be re-purposed for future moves and it can end up saving money in the long-run.
