Money issues often play a major role in the decision to move. The paper reports that many families choose to change locations for financial reasons, such as avoiding foreclosures, or to find a new job.
But even when money isn't a factor, the paper reports that families often move out of cities to more suburban areas to find better schools for their growing children.
"It's not unusual to see young couples who courted Manhattan and worried about where to go for the best sushi to suddenly realize that they want to know where the best schools are for their growing baby or toddler," Jay Breakstone, president of the Nassau-Suffolk School Boards Association in New York, told the paper.
Better performing schools can also translate into higher housing costs, making moving a bit more difficult. Realtors told Move Inc. that areas with solid education scores can be as much as 28 percent more expensive.
