Moving Tips: Familiarize yourself with new appliances

It is important to make sure washers and dryers in the new home are fully-functional.

After your moving company gets you unpacked and you are settled in the new place, getting used to your everyday appliances may not be your first thought. However, it is important to know that not everything works the same, and even for the most savvy of people, there may be a bit of a learning curve when it comes to your new household items.

Take a walk around your home and check out simple items - such as faucets - and make sure they work properly. This may not seem to be that important, but if you purchased a home and things don't operate the way they should, there is an issue that you may need to report. If it is an apartment, this is something that you want to report to your building supervisor as soon as you can.

Washers and dryers can vary significantly. At your old dwelling, you may have dealt with a simple setup, and went about your washing and drying without much difficulty. If you come across devices that look incredibly complicated, take time to get used to them, and follow all directions. Trial and error for a period of getting acclimated with the machines  isn't uncommon either.

In addition, check to make sure your dishwasher works. Some people may have a dishwasher for years and prefer to hand wash items, so if you plan to use yours, it is important to find out if it functions properly.

If you own a home and find major problems with any of the appliances in your home, you may not be able to get them fixed. While this happens, it is better to know it immediately, and take measures to look for replacement items.
