Moving Tips: Be prepared when movers arrive

You should be ready for the move when the movers get there.

You should be ready for the move when the movers get there.

In order to ensure that your move goes as seamlessly as possible, it is important to pack as much as you possibly can in the most orderly of fashions. There are many ways to do this, but not preparing beforehand can delay everyone and make getting from one place to another far more stressful.

It is wise to pack well before the day of the move, or even the night before. Taking a week or two in advance to start the actual packing may be the best way for you to get this process done smoothly. Before you start packing, it could be a good idea to make a checklist of the items that need to be moved. Once this is done, you will have a better idea of how you can tackle your packing.

Preparing items that you use sparingly first will work the best. This means that a majority of clothes can be packed, as you will likely be able to get by with a downsized wardrobe before the move. In addition, various items around the home such as lamps, pictures, curtains and electronics can be stored away well before the move. If you really need your television or computer, you can pack it later, but you may feel better if it is already stored when moving day is fast approaching.

Once these items are all set, prepare to pack more necessary items. Toiletries, medicines and other daily use items need to be taken with you for the move. In addition, the rest of your family's clothes can be packed. Appliances can be unplugged the night before, while small cooking devices, as well as pots and pans can be packed at this point.

Keep in mind, large furniture can wait until the last moment before loading all of your stuff. These items are big and you may not have an area to move them that is practical. Furthermore, you likely need to sleep in your bed the night before a move, so you can’t pack it beforehand. When it is time to move, these bigger items may go into the moving trailer first, but there are many other items that you can prepare beforehand to be ready to ensure the process moves at a good pace.
