Traffic can hurt holiday travel.
While it may seem like a good idea, if you move during a major travel holiday, you could have a much more difficult time transporting your belongings in a timely manner. Even if it costs you a couple of vacation days at work, moving at another point may be the best decision.
Traffic is always the first things that comes to mind. Packing up your items can be a long, arduous process, so actually traveling to the new home shouldn't be as difficult. However, on a holiday weekend, this could become a driving nightmare. These times of year can have significant delays when it comes to sitting on the highway, and it could definitely hurt your stress levels.
Long-distance moves could be even more difficult during these holidays, as you may have constant issues. Not only will traffic be an inconvenience, in general, but you will likely have to pay at the pump for all of the stopping and starting you will do. Keep in mind, the longer you take driving, the more times you will need to stop for food or bathroom breaks. You also could put more stress on your vehicle, which could cost more money, especially if an issue arises on the road.
If you have kids, your ride on the holiday weekend may be complicated further. They may be out of school during the holiday and could be disappointed with the fact they are sitting in the car all day. This may make them tense and restless, and you will have to try and keep them occupied. Driving anywhere can be difficult with children, and if a child is already unhappy, it could be a very long ride. Also, while traffic may cause you to stop more, this could be amplified by children, as they typically need more frequent breaks when on the road.
If you have to move during a holiday weekend, it is important to leave early, as you may be able to beat some traffic and get to your destination at a more reasonable time. However, trying to schedule another time may be best for you and your family. Speak with your moving company when it comes to these issues, as there may be an easy way to rectify the situation and get a time that is perfect for both parties.
