First lady Michelle Obama announced October 19 that a large trade organization said its 270 member companies pledged to hire veterans by the end of 2013. The American Logistics Association, which will hire 25,000 military veterans and spouses, represents companies that serve military commissaries.

Moving trucks may be a more common sight as military families relocate for the jobs, at companies such as Prime Team Services - which is based in Troy, Michigan - and Springdale, Arkansas-based Tyson Foods.

ConAgra Foods, headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, promised to hire 3,000 veterans. The announcement of 25,000 new hires is part of a goal President Barack Obama set on August 5 - for businesses to hire 100,000 veterans and spouses by the end of 2013. About 12,000 have been hired so far.

Military bases dot the country, from Alaska and Hawaii to Washington, D.C., and Connecticut. California has the most bases of any state, with 22 Air Force, Navy and Marine bases and more than 30 Army locations.
