The Department of Labor says that the September jobless rate dropped in 212 of the 372 major U.S. cities nationwide compared to the year before, while the rate increased in just 143 areas. In addition, over the same time period, the number of cities with an unemployment rate higher than 10 percent dropped from 120 to 104, and the number of area with rates below 7 percent increased.
The nation's strongest market in terms of jobs remained Bismark, North Dakota, which has an unemployment rate of just 2.8 percent, meaning that people considering a relocation to the area should have an easier time finding work. Other cities have also showed improving conditions, including Washington, D.C., which added more than 56,000 jobs over the 12-month period.
Other reports have also pointed to an improvement in the employment sector. According to the recent ADP employment report, private employers added another 43,000 jobs in October, a number which Reuters reports was more than double the average expectations by analysts.
