ABF U-Pack Moving® was launched nationwide on October 1, 1997 by ABF Freight System, Inc.®

ABF® introduced U-Pack via the Internet. Customers obtain moving quotes, make reservations, and track their goods online at upack.com. Named the Best Institutional Services Web site for 2005 by the Web Marketing Association, upack.com has thousands of visitors each month.

ABF was established in 1923. Its core business is less-than-truckload (LTL) shipping, consolidating freight from multiple shippers into a single truckload. U-Pack represents an innovative way of moving residential and business belongings cross country in combination with the traditional commercial freight.

U-Pack has become an extremely popular choice for do-it-yourself movers, as well as corporate, institutional, and military relocation specialists. U-Pack is a safe, dependable and hassle-free moving option.

U-Pack provides direct service to more than 98% of U.S. cities whose population exceeds 30,000. U-Pack provides direct service through 290 service centers and 10 distribution facilities to more than 44,000 communities in all 50 states, Canada, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Safety and Security

ABF has been frequently recognized as a benchmark for safety, security, technological innovation, freight-handling standards, and billing accuracy. ABF has earned recognition from the American Trucking Associations' Safety and Loss Prevention Management Council 30 times since 1971. ABF is the only major carrier to have won both the Excellence in Security Award and the Excellence in Claims/Loss Prevention Award in the same year, which ABF accomplished both in 2001 and 2005. ABF also won the Excellence in Claims/Loss Prevention Award in 2002 and the Excellence in Security Award in 2004 and 2007. In 2009, ABF won the Excellence in Security Award for a record fifth time.

Equipment

ABF operates one of the newest, best-maintained fleets on the road - 1,600 road tractors, 2,500 city tractors, and more than 17,000 trailers. The carrier's three-year road tractor replacement cycle ensures that ABF continually has one of the youngest fleets in the industry. ABF also uses ReloCubes, designed expressly for U-Pack moves. These custom-built 6'D x 7'W x 8'H shipping and storage containers are large enough to accommodate one room of furnishings, yet small enough to fit into a normal parking space.
