The nationwide moving company will provide ReloCubes to hold materials donated by local businesses and organizations that will be used during the 3-day Build Brigade for Sergeant Kenny Lyon in Fredericksburg, VA. Fort Smith, Ark. – Out of over 22 million United States veterans, nearly 30% are disabled according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Despite the many organizations designed to provide help for veterans, it's not uncommon to hear of military men and women struggling to overcome the difficulties that arise from a service-related injury. When U-Pack Moving discovered the opportunity to work with Homes for Our Troops, a non-profit organization that offers housing help for disabled veterans, they jumped at the chance. Homes for Our Troops gives back to disabled veterans by building homes for service members injured in combat since September 11, 2001. Sponsors, volunteers, and supplies donated from across the nation make it possible for Homes for Our Troops to provide specially adapted housing to veterans at no cost. With each project, a three-day 'Build Brigade' is held to complete construction in record time. U-Pack is honored to donate portable storage containers that will house donated materials (such as fixtures, hardware, and flooring) to be used in the construction designated for Kenny Lyon. Marine Sergeant Kenny Lyon was near Fallujah, Iraq in May 2006 when he was severely injured in a mortar attack that resulted in an above-the-knee leg amputation, a shattered jaw, and extensive irreversible nerve damage. Once stable and transported back to the United States, Sgt. Lyon was transferred to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where he spent over two years in recovery and still receives therapy and outpatient services. Homes for Our Troops will provide Sgt. Lyon with a fully accessible home so that he can perform his daily activities with more freedom. Having a specially adapted home offers disabled veterans a level of independence that they may not have had otherwise due to their injuries. "U-Pack is proud to contribute to an organization like Homes for Our Troops that provides help for veterans," says U-Pack manager Kay Lynn Clay. "We're thankful for the opportunity to show our appreciation to our military service members and are looking forward to seeing the finished home give Sgt. Lyon the recognition he deserves." The Build Brigade for Sgt. Lyon will take place April 1-3 in Fredericksburg, VA. ABF U-Pack is a nationwide moving company specializing in long distance and interstate moves.
